Lake Forest is a city located in South Orange County. It is a newer city but has a long history in Orange County. It was incorporated as Lake Forest in 1991. Prior to incorporation the area was known as El Toro, in fact El Toro High School is still the city's only high school. The city expanded in 2000 when both Foothill Ranch and Portola Hills were annexed into the city. The population is approximately 80,000.
Lake Forest stretches from the 5 Freeway all the way to the foothills of near Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park. The city is primarily a collection of single family home neighborhoods developed in 1970-1980's. There are a limited number of condos in the city, the majority of the condos are located in the areas of Foothill Ranch and Portola Hills. There are also a limited number of new developments, the largest of which is Baker Ranch. Baker Ranch is master planned community located in northern portion of Lake Forest which will add approximately 2,300 homes when completed.
